The first time I ever encountered racism (not just microaggressions) against ME or my people was the summer before I started high school. I was visiting my cousins in Taos and we wanted to run to the store for snacks. We walked in and split up - I wanted to grab a fountain drink while they were picking out chips. While I was getting my drink, a redneck walked up to me, nodded his head in the direction of my cousins, and said to me "Better watch yourself around them redskins.
